Charles Sumners

Education Specialist, Center for Afterschool and Expanded Learning

Charles Sumners is an Education Specialist in the Center for Afterschool and Expanded Learning, responsible primarily for content development and technical assistance training. Charles has over a decade of experience in special education and program management. Throughout his career, he has been committed to creating inclusive learning environments and implementing effective educational initiatives.

One of his proudest accomplishments includes spearheading the implementation of an innovative inclusive education program for students with developmental disabilities, resulting in a significant increase in academic engagement and achievement among participants.

Guided by a deep commitment to equity and inclusion, Charles believes in the transformative power of education to positively impact lives and communities. His work is inspired by the words of Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

Originally from Lawrenceville, NJ, Charles enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the outdoors through hiking and camping trips. In his free time, he is a passionate sports fan, and he has a deep appreciation for a wide range of musical genres. As a self-professed nerd, Charles also enjoys immersing himself in the worlds of science fiction and fantasy literature, and he’s always up for a spirited debate about the latest Marvel or DC movie.
