Hershawna Turner is an Education Specialist in the Center for Afterschool and Expanded Learning, supporting out-of-school time programs through technical assistance, professional development, and evaluation. Hershawna is an eternal optimist and a firm believer that people who value equity make the world a better place. She takes pride in her work as an advocate for diverse learning opportunities for all students through her work at Foundations.
Hershawna has extensive research experience, specializing in curriculum and instruction. A particular focus for Hershawna is building educator competency with regard to diversity, equity, and empowerment. She is currently completing her PhD in Administrative and Policy Studies in Education at the University of Pittsburgh, specializing in digital storytelling as a tool for identity negotiation in youth.
Hershawna’s family is the cornerstone of her life. Her loving husband is also an educator and advocate, and she has an amazing family support system back in Texas. Hershawna is always having fun – dancing, traveling, and exploring new adventures whenever possible.
