Dr. Maya Angelou, world renowned poet, educator, historian, best-selling author, actress, playwright, civil-rights activist and producer kicked off the 16th Annual Beyond School Hours Conference on February 20 with a surprise appearance at the conference’s opening reception, captivating an audience of 1800 educators, leaders, and distinguished guests at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront in Jacksonville, Florida. The opening remarks and “Sweet 16” birthday wishes by Dr. Angelou, the “Grande Dame of the Spoken Word,” were just one of many exciting offerings on the roster of dynamic programming held for education leaders at the trademark national Beyond School Hours conference. This was Dr. Angelou's third appearance at BSH conferences.
