Improving Schools

The children and youth of our nation deserve learning environments worthy of their extraordinary promise. They deserve schools that engage, inspire and launch them into successful careers and lives.

For nearly 20 years, Foundations, Inc. has worked to create those schools in our home region of Philadelphia and in communities across the country.

Nationally, through our expert technical assistance, we give new and existing schools the governance, curriculum and instruction expertise they need to improve academic performance and operations. Our programs and initiatives apply the latest research and technology to teaching and learning. They represent powerful, highly effective approaches to education.

All of our methods and tools are solidly grounded in practice. Since 2002, Foundations has actively managed a number of previously underperforming schools in Northwest Philadelphia through an initiative called the Neighborhood School Network (NSN). The results: improved culture, higher test scores, and far more students graduating and going on to four-year colleges.

Special programming such as Seeds for Learning, an innovative urban farm and entrepreneurship initiative; an enriching music program; and the Job Resource & Development Center at Martin Luther King High School enhance students’ experiences in school and prepare them more fully for the wider world.
